A visit to Little Bridge House

This week Andy, Brian, Emma and Martin journeyed to Little Bridge House to gain an insight into children's hospice life

It was a day of mixed emotions; great sadness, but also great hope due to the support Childrens Hospice South West provides for families who find themselves in an unimaginable position.

They were given a tour of the hospice, shown the homely atmosphere of the lounge, dining room, and conservatory; and the facilities of the play garden, hydrotherapy pool, sensory, soft play, creative and games rooms.

They were shown the bedrooms that are individually tailored to the child arriving, and returned to the same look when a child returns for a repeat visit; things to allow a few days of “holiday” or “normality” for families.

They heard stories of Mums simple appreciation of finishing a cup of tea, the conversion of the conservatory to a romantic Valentines restaurant; siblings being supported, being allowed to be children, and even the police co-operating in quietening down a genuinely-reported rowdy Children’s Hospice teenage party!

Towards the end of the visit they were shown the photo-board of all the children CHSW has helped, the messages hung on the  memory tree in the Chapel and maybe  the  hardest area; the “Star Born” room – the Chapel of Rest.

Almost all of this essential care is financed via private donations. Government funding is never guaranteed and tends to contribute to a tiny percentage of the running costs.

Having seen the amazing provision of care for children with life limiting conditions, Elemental Microanalysis were very pleased to present a cheque for £1375.00 to help continue this vital service.

Elemental Microanalysis would like to thank all who have fund raised, sponsored, donated and supported us over the past year.
